Feelings are hard to be expressed, especially when you have no idea how to reflect your true feeling, which is when letters come in handy. The letters are more powerful than the text messages we use nowadays as it can be sent with the complete express of our feeling in a few paragraphs form rather than short messages which can be sent anytime, anywhere and without much consideration or feeling being put into it when writing.
I only realized about this when I see Violet Evergarden which is the most beautiful anime series that I’ve ever had my pleasure of seeing before. If you’re looking for an anime that can let you have a good cry and enjoy the moments within at the same time, this is the anime that you will need to actually feel the emotions burying deep inside you again. The synopsis from Wikipedia :
There are words Violet heard on the battlefield, which she cannot forget. These words were given to her by someone she holds dear, more than anyone else. She does not yet know their meaning.
A certain point in time, in the continent of Telesis. The great war which divided the continent into North and South has ended after four years, and the people are welcoming a new generation.
Violet Evergarden, a young girl formerly known as “the weapon,” has left the battlefield to start a new life at CH Postal Service. There, she is deeply moved by the work of “Auto Memories Dolls,” who carry people’s thoughts and convert them into words.
Violet begins her journey as an Auto Memories Doll, and comes face to face with various people’s emotions and differing shapes of love. All the while searching for the meaning of those words.
The storyline itself has a sad tune at the start and as the story continues, it revolves around the theme of love. Each and every episode tackles a story of life, love and relationship that could make you shed some tears, each shadowing unique perspective of life of people living in different world, how they get inspired and amazing portrayal of human’s feeling which cannot be seen on normal anime all while leading to emotional development of Violet. I’ve never been so emotional while watching an anime.
To understand love in different forms.
” Live free .. and from the bottom of my heart, I love you. ” And so Violet embarked on her journey to understand what these word mean as thses were the last words given by Major Gilbert who is assumed to be dead after saving her. Being literally ’emotionless’ and not able to feel or understand any kind of emotions, serving only as a tool to kill enemy and taking orders from Gilbert, she set out to find the meaning of those words.
The existence of anime is not simply to entertain and to let ourselves immerse in the virtual anime world, but rather reflect on our life and the same anime can affect us in some way, be it a huge or minor one. At the end, we’ll have to return back to our world, bringing only the scraps of memory with us and the inspiration we gained, to appreciate every moment and make a happy ending for ourselves that we think we deserved. For me, that’s the true and undiscovered beauty of anime.
Thank you, Violet Evergarden.
